How to Enable Grid and Level Tools on iPhone Camera

Enhance your iPhone photography composition. Learn how to activate the camera grid overlay and the leveling tool for perfectly aligned shots every time.

  1. Open the Settings application. Locate the Settings app on your Home Screen. Tap the grey gear icon to open the configuration menu.
  2. Locate the Camera settings menu. Scroll down the primary list until you reach the Camera option. Tap on it to reveal specific camera configurations.
  3. Activate the Grid feature. Find the Composition section within the menu. Toggle the Grid switch to the ON position. A green background indicates the feature is active.
  4. Activate the Level tool. Directly below the Grid toggle, find the Level option. Switch the Level toggle to the ON position.
  5. Test the tools in the Camera app. Close Settings and open the Camera app. Point your iPhone at a subject to observe the thin grey grid lines. Tilt your device to see the Level indicator appear as a crosshair when you are near a flat, horizontal plane.
