How to Configure Security Keys for Apple ID on iPhone
Enhance your Apple ID security by adding physical hardware security keys. Follow this step-by-step guide to protect your account.
- Navigate to Apple ID Security settings. Open the Settings app on your iPhone. Tap your Apple ID name at the top of the menu, then select Sign-In & Security.
- Access Security Keys menu. Scroll down and tap Security Keys. If you have not configured this feature before, tap Add Security Keys to begin the setup process.
- Add the first security key. Follow the on-screen prompts to register your primary hardware key. Connect the key to your iPhone via the charging port or NFC as indicated by your specific key model.
- Add the second security key. Apple requires a backup key for redundancy. Repeat the registration process for your second physical security key to ensure you are never locked out of your account.
- Review and confirm settings. Review the list of registered keys shown under Security Keys. Ensure all trusted devices currently signed into your Apple ID are active, as you will be signed out of any inactive devices.
- Confirm sign-out across devices. Select Sign Out of All Devices to complete the security implementation. Your account is now protected by physical hardware keys, requiring them for all future sign-ins.
