How to use Live Activities on iPhone

Learn to enable, manage, and customize Live Activities on iPhone. Control real-time updates for sports, delivery tracking, and more on your lock screen.

1. Enable Live Activities in Settings. Open Settings and tap Face ID & Passcode or Touch ID & Passcode. Enter your passcode, then scroll down to Allow Access When Locked. Toggle on Live Activities to enable the feature systemwide.
2. Configure app-specific Live Activities. Go to Settings > Notifications. Select an app that supports Live Activities, such as Uber, ESPN, or Apple Music. Toggle on Allow Notifications, then enable Live Activities for that specific app.
3. Start a Live Activity from a compatible app. Open a supported app and begin an activity that triggers Live Activities. For example, start playing music in Apple Music, order food through DoorDash, or follow a live sports game in ESPN. The Live Activity appears automatically on your lock screen.
4. Interact with Live Activities on the lock screen. View real-time updates directly on your lock screen without unlocking your iPhone. Tap the Live Activity to open the associated app for more details or controls. The information updates automatically as events change.
5. Use Live Activities in Dynamic Island. On iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro models, Live Activities also appear in the Dynamic Island. Tap the Dynamic Island to expand the Live Activity for more information. Long press for quick actions without opening the full app.
6. Manage active Live Activities. Swipe left on any Live Activity on your lock screen and tap the X to end it manually. Most Live Activities end automatically when the associated event concludes, such as when your food delivery arrives or your ride ends.
7. Control Live Activities notifications. Return to Settings > Notifications and select individual apps to customize how their Live Activities behave. Toggle off Live Activities for apps you don't want appearing on your lock screen while keeping regular notifications enabled.
