How to Use iPhone as a Level Tool
Transform your iPhone into a precision level tool using the built-in Measure app. Get accurate readings for hanging pictures and home projects.
- Open the Measure app. Locate the Measure app on your home screen or search for it using Spotlight. The app icon shows a ruler and is pre-installed on iOS 12 and later. Tap to open the app.
- Switch to Level mode. Tap the 'Level' tab at the bottom of the screen. You'll see two circular level indicators appear on your display. The screen will turn black with white level circles for better visibility.
- Position your iPhone for horizontal leveling. Place your iPhone flat against the surface you want to level, with the screen facing up. The top circle shows your horizontal level reading. When the surface is perfectly level, the circle turns green and displays 0°.
- Check vertical surfaces. Hold your iPhone against a wall or vertical surface with the back of the phone touching the surface. The bottom circle displays your vertical level reading. A green circle with 0° indicates perfect vertical alignment.
- Read the degree measurements. The white numbers inside each circle show the exact degree of tilt. Positive numbers indicate which direction to adjust. Move your iPhone or the object you're leveling until you achieve 0° and the circle turns green.
- Lock the current reading. Tap anywhere on the screen when you've found your level position. The display will show 'Level' and the current measurement becomes your reference point. This lets you check if other surfaces match the same angle.
