How to set a live wallpaper on iPhone

Learn how to set a live wallpaper on your iPhone using the Lock Screen interface to animate your device.

  1. Enter the Lock Screen editor. Lock your iPhone and authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID, but do not swipe up to the Home Screen. Press and hold your finger on an empty area of the Lock Screen to open the wallpaper gallery.
  2. Add a new wallpaper. Tap the blue plus (+) icon located at the bottom right of the screen to create a new wallpaper configuration. This opens the Add New Wallpaper interface.
  3. Choose your Live Photo. Tap the Photos icon at the top of the screen or select Live Photos from the suggested categories. Select the specific Live Photo you wish to use as your animated wallpaper.
  4. Enable motion. Tap the Play icon button in the bottom left corner to verify the animation. Ensure the Motion effect is toggled on to allow the photo to play when you wake your device.
  5. Save and apply. Tap Add in the top right corner once you are satisfied with the preview. Select Set as Wallpaper Pair to apply the animation to both your Lock Screen and Home Screen, or choose Customize Home Screen for individual settings.
