How to manage Emergency Access and Medical ID on iPhone

Learn how to configure and review your Medical ID and Emergency Access settings on iPhone to ensure first responders have access during an emergency.

  1. Open the Health application. Locate and open the Health app from your Home Screen. Tap your profile picture or initials icon in the top-right corner of the Summary tab to reveal the menu.
  2. Access Medical ID settings. Tap the Medical ID button located in the Features section. Select Edit in the top-right corner to modify your health profile or ensure existing information is current.
  3. Enable Lock Screen access. Scroll to the bottom of the Edit screen. Toggle the switch for Show When Locked to the ON position to ensure emergency services can access your profile without a passcode.
  4. Verify Emergency Contacts. Under the Emergency Contacts section, review the listed individuals. Tap Add Emergency Contact to select a person from your Contacts app and assign their relationship to you.
  5. Confirm the emergency interface. Lock your iPhone. Swipe up or press the Side button, then tap Emergency on the passcode entry screen. Tap Medical ID to verify that your information is displayed correctly.
