How to Move the iPhone Cursor Precisely

Master precise text navigation on iPhone using the trackpad feature hidden within your keyboard.

  1. Open the keyboard. Tap any text field where you wish to edit content to trigger the on-screen keyboard. Ensure the cursor is active within the text area.
  2. Enter trackpad mode. Press and hold your finger firmly on the Space bar. The keys on the keyboard will go blank, indicating that trackpad mode is engaged.
  3. Slide to position the cursor. Without lifting your finger, slide it across the surface of the keyboard area. The cursor will move correspondingly within your text field.
  4. Select text precisely. While in trackpad mode, tap the keyboard area with a second finger while maintaining the first finger's position. This initiates selection mode, allowing you to drag and highlight specific words or sentences.
  5. Release to exit. Lift your finger from the screen to exit trackpad mode. The standard keyboard layout will reappear instantly, allowing you to type or use the editing toolbar.
