How to Markup and Edit iPhone Screenshots Instantly

Learn how to access the markup editor immediately after taking an iPhone screenshot to crop, draw, and annotate before saving your image.

  1. Capture the screen. Press the Side button and the Volume Up button simultaneously to trigger a screenshot. A thumbnail preview will appear immediately in the bottom-left corner of your display.
  2. Open the markup editor. Tap the thumbnail preview immediately after it appears. This action opens the full-screen Markup interface, preventing the file from saving to your library until you finish your edits.
  3. Apply annotations. Use the tool palette at the bottom of the screen to select a pen, marker, or pencil. Choose a color from the spectrum selector to highlight areas or write notes directly onto the image.
  4. Crop the screenshot. Drag the blue anchor points located at the corners and edges of the image to adjust the visible frame. Release to set your new dimensions and remove unnecessary screen elements.
  5. Save or share. Tap Done in the top-left corner to choose Save to Photos or Save to Files. Alternatively, tap the Share icon in the top-right corner to send the marked-up image directly via Messages, Mail, or AirDrop.
