How to Hide Sensitive Notifications on iPhone

Secure your privacy by configuring notification previews to remain hidden until your iPhone is unlocked via Face ID or Touch ID.

  1. Open Settings and navigate to Notifications. Launch the Settings app from your Home Screen. Scroll down and tap on Notifications to access your global notification preferences.
  2. Access the Show Previews menu. Locate the Show Previews option at the very top of the Notifications menu. Tap on it to reveal the configuration settings.
  3. Set preview visibility to When Unlocked. Select the When Unlocked option. This ensures that the content of your notifications remains hidden until your device successfully authenticates your identity via Face ID or Touch ID.
  4. Apply specific app restrictions. Return to the Notifications menu and select a specific application, such as Messages or Mail. Scroll to the bottom and ensure the Show Previews setting is set to Use Global Setting or When Unlocked to maintain consistency.
  5. Test the new notification behavior. Lock your iPhone and trigger a notification from a secondary device. Observe the Lock Screen; the notification banner will now display the app icon and a generic 'Notification' label instead of the message content.
