How to Transfer Health Data to a New iPhone

Ensure your health and fitness data migrates securely to your new iPhone using encrypted iCloud backups or local encrypted computer backups.

  1. Enable Health in iCloud Settings. On your current iPhone, navigate to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Show All. Ensure the toggle for Health is set to ON to synchronize your data with iCloud.
  2. Perform an Encrypted Backup. If not using iCloud, connect your old iPhone to a computer. In Finder or iTunes, select your device, choose Encrypt Local Backup, and set a memorable password. Health data is only included in backups that are encrypted.
  3. Initiate iCloud Backup. Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup. Tap Back Up Now to ensure your most recent health metrics, activity rings, and workout history are uploaded to your iCloud account.
  4. Initialize the New iPhone. Power on your new iPhone and follow the on-screen prompts until you reach the Apps & Data screen. Select Restore from iCloud Backup or Restore from Mac/PC, depending on your chosen backup method.
  5. Complete Data Migration. Select the most recent backup file from the list. Wait for the restore process to finish; the device will restart automatically once the migration of health databases is complete.
  6. Confirm Data Integrity. Open the Health app on your new device. Tap the Summary tab and ensure your recent steps, heart rate data, and workout summaries are present and accurate.
