How to Set Up StandBy Mode on iPhone
Enable StandBy mode on iPhone running iOS 17 or later. Transform your iPhone into a smart display while charging horizontally.
- Update to iOS 17 or later. Open Settings and tap General > Software Update. Download and install iOS 17 if not already installed. StandBy mode requires iOS 17 or later to function.
- Enable StandBy in Settings. Open Settings and scroll down to StandBy. Toggle the StandBy switch to the on position. The toggle turns green when enabled.
- Connect your iPhone to a charger. Plug your iPhone into a Lightning cable, USB-C cable, or place it on a MagSafe charger. StandBy mode only activates when the iPhone is charging.
- Position iPhone horizontally. Rotate your iPhone to landscape orientation while it remains connected to the charger. The screen automatically switches to StandBy mode after a few seconds.
- Customize your StandBy display. Swipe left or right to switch between different views: Widgets, Photos, and Clock. Tap and hold on any view to customize widgets, select photo albums, or change clock styles.
- Configure Always-On Display settings. For iPhone 14 Pro models and iPhone 15 Pro models, go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Always-On Display. Enable this to keep StandBy visible even when the screen would normally turn off.
