How to Set Up Guided Access on iPhone
Enable Guided Access on iPhone to restrict app usage and disable certain screen areas. Complete setup guide with step-by-step instructions.
- Enable Guided Access in Settings. Open Settings > Accessibility > Guided Access. Toggle on Guided Access at the top of the screen. The feature is now available but not yet active.
- Set a Guided Access passcode. Tap Passcode Settings in the Guided Access menu. Choose Set Guided Access Passcode and enter a 6-digit code. Re-enter the code to confirm. This passcode will end Guided Access sessions.
- Configure time limits. Tap Time Limits in the Guided Access settings. Toggle on Time Limits and set your preferred duration using the plus and minus buttons. When time expires, iPhone will display a warning and lock the screen.
- Start a Guided Access session. Open the app you want to restrict. Triple-click the Side button (or Home button on older models). The Guided Access setup screen appears with the current app outlined.
- Draw restricted areas. Circle any screen areas you want to disable by drawing with your finger. Tap Options in the bottom-left to disable Sleep/Wake Button, Volume Buttons, Motion, Keyboards, or Touch entirely. These controls turn gray when disabled.
- Launch the restricted session. Tap Start in the top-right corner. Your iPhone is now locked to this app with your specified restrictions. The status bar shows 'Guided Access' to confirm the session is active.
- End the Guided Access session. Triple-click the Side button (or Home button). Enter your Guided Access passcode or use Face ID/Touch ID if enabled. Tap End in the top-left corner to return to normal iPhone operation.
