How to Set Up Face ID on iPhone

1. Open Face ID & Passcode settings. Navigate to Settings > Face ID & Passcode. Enter your current device passcode when prompted. If you haven't set a passcode yet, you'll need to create one before proceeding with Face ID setup.
2. Tap Set Up Face ID. Select 'Set Up Face ID' from the menu options. Your iPhone will activate the front-facing camera and display positioning instructions on screen. Ensure you're in a well-lit area for optimal scanning results.
3. Position your face in the frame. Hold your iPhone 10-20 inches away from your face in portrait orientation. Center your face within the circular frame displayed on screen. The camera will automatically begin scanning when your face is properly positioned.
4. Complete the first scan. Slowly move your head in a circle to complete the initial facial scan. Follow the white dots around the circle as they appear. The process takes about 10-15 seconds and will show a green checkmark when the first scan completes successfully.
5. Perform the second scan. Tap 'Continue' to begin the second facial scan for improved accuracy. Repeat the circular head movement process, focusing on slightly different angles and expressions. This second scan helps Face ID recognize you in various lighting conditions and orientations.
6. Configure Face ID preferences. After successful scanning, choose which features to enable Face ID for: iPhone unlock, iTunes & App Store purchases, Apple Pay, and password autofill. Toggle each option on or off based on your security preferences.
