How to Secure Your iPhone Personal Hotspot

Protect your mobile data and prevent unauthorized access by securing your iPhone Personal Hotspot with a strong password and WPA3 encryption.

  1. Navigate to Hotspot settings. Open the Settings app from your Home Screen. Tap Personal Hotspot to access your connectivity configuration menu.
  2. Update your Wi-Fi password. Tap Wi-Fi Password. Enter a new, complex alphanumeric password at least 8 characters long to replace the default generated code. Tap Done in the top-right corner to save the changes.
  3. Enable Maximized Compatibility. Locate the Maximize Compatibility toggle. Ensure this is switched off unless you are connecting legacy devices, as disabling it ensures the use of stronger WPA3 encryption protocols.
  4. Manage active connections. Return to the main Settings menu and tap Wi-Fi or look for the Personal Hotspot icon in the Control Center. Swipe down from the top-right corner to view active connections in the connectivity card.
  5. Revoke unauthorized devices. To immediately disconnect an unknown device, toggle the Allow Others to Join switch to the Off position. This terminates all active sessions instantly. Re-enable the switch when you are ready to allow authorized devices to reconnect.
