How to Update iOS on a New iPhone
Keep your new iPhone secure and functional by updating to the latest iOS version immediately after initial setup.
- Connect to a reliable Wi-Fi network. Open the Settings app and tap Wi-Fi. Toggle the switch to On and select a stable network, as iOS updates are typically too large to download over cellular data.
- Access the General settings menu. In the Settings app, scroll down and tap General. This section contains the primary administrative controls for your device.
- Check for available updates. Tap Software Update. Your iPhone will automatically poll Apple’s servers to check for the latest compatible iOS version.
- Initiate the download process. If an update is available, tap Download and Install. Enter your device passcode if prompted to authorize the action.
- Execute the installation. Once the download completes, tap Install Now. The iPhone will restart and display the Apple logo and a progress bar; do not interrupt this process.
