Erase Your iPhone After Transferring Data
Securely erase all data from your old iPhone after migrating to a new device. Follow these steps for a complete data wipe.
- Confirm Your New iPhone Backup. Before erasing your old iPhone, ensure your data has been successfully transferred to your new device. Verify that all essential apps, photos, and settings are present on the new iPhone. If using iCloud, check Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud to confirm your latest backup is complete.
- Sign Out of iCloud. Navigate to Settings > [Your Name]. Scroll to the bottom and tap Sign Out. You will be prompted to enter your Apple ID password to disable Activation Lock and remove the device from your trusted devices.
- Initiate Content and Settings Erasure. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone. Tap Erase All Content and Settings. This action will remove all your personal data, apps, and settings from the device.
- Confirm Erase Operation. You will see a confirmation screen explaining what will be erased. Tap Continue. If prompted, enter your iPhone passcode.
- Enter Passcode and Apple ID. You may be asked to enter your iPhone passcode again. If Find My was enabled, you will be required to enter your Apple ID password to disable Activation Lock before the erase process begins.
- Allow Erasure to Complete. The iPhone will now erase all data and settings. This process can take several minutes. Do not interrupt the process. The device will restart and display the 'Hello' screen, indicating a successful erasure.
