How to Configure a Stronger iPhone Passcode

Upgrade your iPhone security by switching from a 6-digit PIN to a complex alphanumeric passcode. Follow these steps to secure your data.

  1. Access Passcode Settings. Open the Settings app. Scroll down and tap Face ID & Passcode or Touch ID & Passcode, depending on your device model.
  2. Enter Current Credentials. Enter your existing passcode when prompted to authenticate your access to the security settings menu.
  3. Initiate Passcode Change. Locate and tap the Change Passcode option. When prompted, enter your current passcode one final time.
  4. Access Passcode Options. Tap Passcode Options located just above the numeric keypad. A menu will appear displaying the available formats.
  5. Choose Custom Alphanumeric Code. Select Custom Alphanumeric Code. This setting allows for the use of letters, numbers, and symbols in your new password.
  6. Set New Passcode. Enter your new, complex password. Tap Next, then re-enter the password to verify accuracy and tap Done to save changes.
