Mastering iPad Trackpad Gestures

Learn to navigate iPadOS efficiently using Apple Magic Keyboard trackpad gestures. Improve your workflow with precise multitasking and navigation controls.

  1. Open the Home Screen. Swipe up from the bottom edge of the trackpad with three fingers. When the dock appears, continue the swipe to reveal the Home Screen.
  2. Access the App Switcher. Swipe up from the bottom edge of the trackpad with three fingers and pause briefly in the middle of the screen. Release the trackpad to view all active app spaces.
  3. Switch between active apps. Swipe left or right with three fingers to cycle through your recently used apps. This gesture replicates the quick app-switching behavior found on iPhone.
  4. Open Control Center or Notification Center. Move the pointer to the top-right corner and click the status icons to open Control Center. Move the pointer to the top-center to pull down the Notification Center.
  5. Manage Split View and Slide Over. Click the three-dot multitasking button at the top of an app window to choose a layout. Alternatively, drag an app from the dock onto the left or right edge of the screen to initiate Split View.
  6. Adjust trackpad settings. Navigate to Settings > General > Trackpad. Adjust the Tracking Speed slider to change cursor velocity and toggle Natural Scrolling to invert the scroll direction.
