How to Use Scribble on iPad

Master iPad Scribble to write in any text field with Apple Pencil. Enable handwriting recognition, edit text, and boost productivity with natural writing.

  1. Enable Scribble in Settings. Open Settings and tap Apple Pencil. Toggle on Scribble to activate handwriting recognition. Ensure your Apple Pencil is connected and configured before proceeding.
  2. Write directly in any text field. Tap any text input area with your Apple Pencil and start writing naturally. Your handwriting automatically converts to typed text as you write. Write at normal speed for best recognition accuracy.
  3. Delete text with scratch gestures. Scratch out words or letters with quick back-and-forth strokes to delete them. Draw a vertical line through text to delete entire words. The scratched content disappears immediately without requiring additional taps.
  4. Insert text between words. Touch and hold between existing words until you see a gap appear. Write new text in the expanded space. The new content integrates seamlessly into your existing text without disrupting formatting.
  5. Select and edit converted text. Circle words or drag across text with your Apple Pencil to select converted content. Use standard text editing gestures like copy, paste, and formatting once text is selected. Double-tap to select individual words quickly.
  6. Join or separate words. Draw a vertical line between letters to separate them into different words. Connect separate words by drawing a joining line underneath them. These gestures fix spacing issues without retyping content.
