How to Configure Screen Time Security Settings on iPad

Secure your iPad usage limits and content restrictions with a dedicated Screen Time passcode. Step-by-step guide for iPadOS.

  1. Open Screen Time settings. Launch the Settings app from your Home Screen or Dock. Scroll down the sidebar menu and tap Screen Time to access your usage monitoring and control panel.
  2. Set a Screen Time passcode. Tap Lock Screen Time Settings. Enter a four-digit numeric passcode that is distinct from your device unlock PIN to prevent unauthorized changes to your restrictions.
  3. Recover your credentials. Enter your Apple ID and password when prompted for Screen Time Passcode Recovery. This ensures you can reset your code if it is forgotten without wiping your device.
  4. Enable Content & Privacy Restrictions. Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions within the Screen Time menu. Toggle the main switch to ON to activate advanced filtering for apps, web content, and privacy settings.
  5. Lock individual restriction categories. Select iTunes & App Store Purchases to toggle password requirements for downloads. Review Content Restrictions to filter explicit media and websites based on age-appropriate ratings.
  6. Enforce strict app limits. Navigate to App Limits and toggle Block at End of Limit. This prevents users from requesting additional time once the allotted duration for a specific category has expired.
