How to Use Math Notes in iPad Calculator

Master iPad Math Notes. Solve equations, graph functions, and manage variables using Apple Pencil in the redesigned iPadOS Calculator app.

  1. Launch Math Notes. Open the Calculator app on your iPad. Tap the sidebar icon in the top-left corner and select Math Notes from the menu to initialize a new canvas.
  2. Enter mathematical expressions. Use your Apple Pencil to write any mathematical expression or equation on the canvas. The app recognizes your handwriting in real time and aligns the text automatically.
  3. Calculate results. Write an equals sign (=) after your expression to trigger the automatic solver. The result will appear immediately in a matching ink color.
  4. Insert a graph. Write a function using a variable, such as y = x^2. Tap the blue 'Insert Graph' prompt that appears beneath the equation to render an interactive coordinate plane.
  5. Define variables. Write a variable definition, such as 'a = 10', followed by an equation using that variable. Adjust the value of 'a' on the canvas to see the dependent equation update in real time.
  6. Manage your workspace. Tap the Math Notes icon in the sidebar to view saved notes. Use the Share button to export your calculations as an image or to Notes.
