How to Use Your iPad as a Portable Whiteboard

Transform your iPad into a portable whiteboard for meetings and teaching. Follow these steps to set up Freeform for real-time collaboration and drawing.

  1. Initialize the Freeform application. Open the Freeform app from your Home Screen or App Library. Tap the Compose icon in the top right corner to create a new, blank board.
  2. Configure the canvas grid. Tap the More icon (three dots) in the top toolbar. Select Show Grid to add a visual reference for structured diagrams and handwriting.
  3. Select and customize drawing instruments. Tap the Markup toolbar at the bottom of the screen. Select the pen, marker, or pencil tool, and tap it a second time to adjust stroke weight and opacity.
  4. Connect to an external display. Swipe down from the top right corner to open Control Center. Tap the Screen Mirroring icon and select your AirPlay-enabled monitor or television to project your canvas.
  5. Invite participants to the board. Tap the Share icon in the top right corner. Adjust the permission settings to allow anyone with the link to make changes, then send the invite via Messages or Mail.
