How to Use Full Keyboard Access on iPad
Master iPad navigation using only your physical keyboard. Learn to enable Full Keyboard Access for precision control without touching your screen.
- Enable Full Keyboard Access. Open the Settings app and navigate to Accessibility. Select Full Keyboard Access under the Physical and Motor section, then toggle the switch to On.
- Understand Basic Movement. Use the Tab key to cycle through focusable elements on the screen. Hold Shift while pressing Tab to move in reverse, and use the Arrow keys to navigate within lists or menus.
- Activate Selected Elements. Press the Space bar to click or activate the currently highlighted item. Press the Return key to perform the primary action, such as opening an app or clicking a button.
- Trigger System Commands. Press Command + H to return to the Home Screen instantly. Use Command + Tab to cycle through your active applications without using the App Switcher gesture.
- Adjust Appearance and Behavior. Return to Accessibility settings to change the focus color, thickness, and auto-hide timing. Adjusting the focus color ensures the highlight remains visible against various background wallpapers.
