How to Use App Groups to Organize Your iPad Home Screen

Master iPad multitasking and home screen organization by grouping apps into folders. Learn to create, rename, and manage your App Library effectively.

  1. Enter jiggle mode. Long-press any empty area on your Home Screen or press and hold an individual app icon until all icons begin to animate. Do not release your finger until the minus buttons appear in the top-left corners of the apps.
  2. Create a new folder. Drag one application icon directly on top of another application icon that you wish to group. Release your finger once the second icon is highlighted by a dark square boundary to automatically generate a folder.
  3. Add additional applications. While in jiggle mode, drag any additional app icons into the newly created folder. Release the icons when the folder boundary highlights, indicating the app has been added to the internal stack.
  4. Rename the folder. Tap the folder once to open it. Tap the text field at the top of the folder interface to trigger the on-screen keyboard, enter your desired label, and tap Done.
  5. Exit edit mode. Tap any empty space on your Home Screen or press the Home button (or swipe up from the bottom edge on models without a Home button) to save your changes and stop the icons from animating.
