How to set a stronger iPad passcode

Secure your iPad by switching from a 4-digit code to a custom alphanumeric passcode. Follow these steps to maximize device security.

  1. Open Face ID & Passcode settings. Launch the Settings app from your Home Screen. Tap Face ID & Passcode or Touch ID & Passcode in the left-hand sidebar, then enter your current passcode to proceed.
  2. Initiate the passcode change. Scroll down and tap Change Passcode. Input your existing passcode when prompted to authenticate your identity.
  3. Access Passcode Options. When prompted to enter your new passcode, tap Passcode Options located just above the numeric keypad. A menu will appear with alternative security formats.
  4. Select a Custom Alphanumeric Code. Select Custom Alphanumeric Code from the list. This selection allows you to use a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols for maximum security.
  5. Define your new passcode. Enter your new alphanumeric passcode. Tap Next, then re-enter the code to verify accuracy. Tap Done to apply the changes to your system.
