How to Review and Manage App Permissions on iPad

Take control of your data privacy. Learn how to audit and modify app permissions on iPad to manage access to your location, camera, microphone, and photos.

  1. Open Privacy Settings. Open the Settings app from your Home Screen or Dock. Scroll down the left sidebar and select the Privacy & Security tab.
  2. Examine Individual Categories. Tap on a specific data category, such as Photos, Camera, or Microphone. This displays a list of every app that has requested access to that hardware or data set.
  3. Adjust Access Levels. Tap an app name to view or change its permissions. Toggle the switch to Off to revoke access, or select specific limitations such as 'Add Photos Only' instead of 'Full Access'.
  4. Check Location Services. Select Location Services at the top of the Privacy & Security menu. Review the list of apps and set their access to Never, Ask Next Time, or While Using the App.
  5. Verify Recent Activity. Navigate back to the main Privacy & Security menu and select App Privacy Report. This log shows which apps accessed your data in the last seven days.
