How to Move the iPad Cursor Precisely

Master iPad text editing by using the trackpad mode to navigate and select text with pixel-perfect accuracy.

  1. Trigger trackpad mode. Open any app that supports text input. Tap and hold two fingers anywhere on the software keyboard until the keys turn blank and the cursor becomes a visible, moveable point.
  2. Position the cursor. Slide your fingers across the keyboard area to move the cursor through the text. The cursor follows your movement precisely, allowing you to land between any two characters.
  3. Select text ranges. To select text, tap the keyboard area once with a second finger while the trackpad mode is active. Drag your primary finger across the keyboard to highlight the desired characters.
  4. Adjust selection boundaries. Lift your fingers to exit selection mode and maintain the highlighted block. If you need to expand or shrink the selection, tap and hold again to re-engage the trackpad and refine the edges.
  5. Return to typing. Lift all fingers from the screen to exit trackpad mode. The keyboard will reappear immediately, allowing you to edit or replace the selected text.
