How to Transfer Procreate Projects to a New iPad
A precise guide to migrating your Procreate artwork and brushes to a new iPad using the native Procreate file format and iCloud backup methods.
- Update Procreate on the source device. Open the App Store on your old iPad and navigate to your account profile. Tap Update All to ensure Procreate is running the latest version, which prevents compatibility errors during the transfer process.
- Export your entire gallery. Open the Procreate Gallery on your old iPad and tap Select. Tap each artwork or stack you wish to transfer, or tap Select All to highlight everything. Tap the Share button and select the .procreate format for each file to preserve layers and edit history.
- Save files to the Files app. Once the export sheet appears, choose Save to Files. Select a folder within your iCloud Drive or a connected external storage device. Wait for the progress bar to complete to ensure all files have successfully uploaded to your cloud storage.
- Export custom brushes and palettes. Open your Brush Library, drag down to reveal the Import/Export menu, and tap Share to export your custom sets to Files. Repeat this process in the Color Palette menu by tapping the ellipsis icon and selecting Share on your custom palettes.
- Import content to the new iPad. Install Procreate on your new iPad. Open the Files app, navigate to the folder containing your transferred files, and tap each .procreate, .brushset, or palette file. Procreate will automatically launch and import the assets into your gallery, brush library, and color menus.
