How to Optimize iPad Display for Better Readability

Improve iPad legibility by adjusting text size, weight, and contrast. Follow these steps to optimize your display for comfortable reading.

  1. Increase the system font size. Open the Settings app and navigate to Display & Brightness. Tap Text Size and drag the slider to the right to increase the font scale across supported applications.
  2. Apply bold text weight. Navigate to Settings > Display & Brightness. Toggle the Bold Text switch to the on position. The iPad will restart the springboard to apply the thicker font weight system-wide.
  3. Increase contrast and reduce transparency. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size. Toggle on Increase Contrast to sharpen the distinction between text and background colors. Toggle on Reduce Transparency to replace blurred backgrounds with solid, high-contrast surfaces.
  4. Enable color filters. In Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size, tap Color Filters. Switch the toggle on and select Grayscale or a specific color tint to reduce eye strain caused by vibrant colors.
  5. Configure Night Shift. Navigate to Settings > Display & Brightness > Night Shift. Set a schedule or toggle 'Manually Enable Until Tomorrow' to shift the display colors to the warmer end of the spectrum. Use the color temperature slider to find the most comfortable balance for your eyes.
