How to Manage Microphone and Camera Permissions on iPad
Take control of your privacy. Learn how to restrict or grant microphone and camera access for specific apps on your iPad in simple, actionable steps.
- Open Privacy settings. Launch the Settings app from your Home Screen or Dock. Scroll down the left-hand sidebar and tap on Privacy & Security.
- Review Camera permissions. Select the Camera option from the main list in the Privacy & Security menu. You will see a list of every app that has previously requested access to your camera.
- Adjust Camera access. Toggle the switch next to any app to turn its access off or on. When the switch is grey, the app cannot access your camera hardware.
- Review Microphone permissions. Return to the Privacy & Security menu. Select the Microphone option to view all applications with audio input permissions.
- Adjust Microphone access. Review the list of apps and tap the toggle switches to modify permissions. Ensure only trusted applications have access to your microphone.
- Monitor active usage. Check your status bar at the top right of your iPad screen. An orange dot indicates the microphone is active, and a green dot indicates the camera is active.
