How to Remap Modifier Keys on iPad

Customize your iPad workflow by remapping Caps Lock, Control, Option, and Command keys on any connected hardware keyboard.

  1. Open keyboard settings. Ensure your hardware keyboard is connected to the iPad via Bluetooth or Smart Connector. Open the Settings app, navigate to General, and select Hardware Keyboard.
  2. Access Modifier Keys menu. Locate the Modifier Keys button within the Hardware Keyboard menu. Tap this option to view the list of remappable keys available for your specific hardware device.
  3. Select a key to modify. Select one of the physical keys from the list, such as Caps Lock, Control, Option, or Command. This opens a sub-menu displaying all available system functions that can be assigned to that physical key.
  4. Assign a new function. Tap the desired function you wish to assign to the selected key. Once selected, the change applies immediately to your system input.
  5. Confirm functionality. Test the remapped key within any text-entry application or by using a system shortcut. If the behavior is not as expected, return to the Modifier Keys menu to adjust or reset the configuration.
