How to Arrange iPad App Windows

Master iPad multitasking with this guide on arranging app windows using Stage Manager, Split View, and Slide Over on iPadOS.

  1. Enable Stage Manager. Open Settings, navigate to Multitasking & Gestures, and select Stage Manager. This feature allows you to resize windows and overlap apps on your screen.
  2. Open the Multitasking Menu. Tap the three-dot button located at the top center of any active app window. This reveals the multitasking menu containing options for Full Screen, Split View, and Slide Over.
  3. Create a Split View. Select the Split View icon from the three-dot menu. The current app will shift to the side, allowing you to choose a second app from the Home Screen or App Library to occupy the remaining space.
  4. Add a Slide Over window. From the three-dot menu, select the Slide Over icon. The active window will move to the side, and you can open another app to overlay it on top of your current workspace.
  5. Resize and Position Windows. In Stage Manager mode, tap and drag the curved corner handle at the bottom of an app window. Move the window across the screen to your preferred layout position.
  6. Group App Windows. Drag an app icon from the Dock or App Library into an existing Stage Manager group. This creates a persistent workspace set that you can switch to at any time from the app switcher.
