How to Update iPadOS

Keep your iPad secure and current. Follow these steps to check for and install the latest iPadOS updates manually.

  1. Connect to a power source. Connect your iPad to a power outlet using a USB-C cable and power adapter. Updates require sufficient battery or a power connection to initiate the installation process.
  2. Open the Settings app. Locate and tap the Settings app icon on your Home Screen. It is represented by a set of grey gears.
  3. Access General settings. Tap General in the left-hand sidebar menu. This section contains the core configuration settings for your device.
  4. Select Software Update. Tap Software Update located at the top of the General menu. Your iPad will automatically contact Apple's servers to check for the latest available version of iPadOS.
  5. Download and install the update. If an update is available, tap Download and Install. Enter your device passcode when prompted to authorize the installation.
