How to Enable Screen Time During iPad Setup
Configure Screen Time directly during the iPad initial setup process to manage app usage, content restrictions, and downtime from the moment of activation.
- Begin the iPad Setup Assistant. Power on your new iPad and swipe up from the bottom of the screen. Follow the initial prompts to select your language, region, and connect to a local Wi-Fi network.
- Sign in with your Apple ID. Proceed through the security and data transfer screens. When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password to sign in, or create a new account if you have not previously done so.
- Locate the Screen Time menu. Continue through the setup workflow until you reach the Screen Time screen. This screen appears automatically as part of the standard initial configuration process.
- Turn on Screen Time. Tap Continue to enable the feature. If you are setting this up for a child, select Set Up for a Child to configure specific parental controls and usage limits.
- Establish a Screen Time passcode. Enter a four-digit numeric passcode when prompted. This code is required to change Screen Time settings or extend usage limits later; ensure it is distinct from your iPad unlock passcode.
- Complete the iPad setup. Finish the remaining setup screens, including Siri configuration and display preferences. Your Screen Time settings are now active and will begin tracking usage immediately.
