How to initiate your first iCloud backup on iPad

Learn how to trigger your first iCloud backup on iPad to ensure your data is securely stored in the cloud. Follow this step-by-step guide.

  1. Open iPad Settings. Locate and tap the Settings icon on your Home Screen. The icon resembles a set of gray interlocking gears.
  2. Access Apple ID profile. Tap your name at the very top of the left-hand sidebar. This opens your Apple ID account menu.
  3. Select iCloud settings. Tap on the iCloud menu option listed in the center of the screen. This displays your current storage status and synced apps.
  4. Locate iCloud Backup. Scroll down the right-hand panel and tap iCloud Backup. Ensure the toggle switch labeled Back Up This iPad is set to the On (green) position.
  5. Start the manual backup. Tap the button labeled Back Up Now. Your iPad will initiate a connection to the Apple servers and begin uploading your data.
  6. Confirm completion. Keep the iPad connected to Wi-Fi until the progress bar disappears. Once complete, the timestamp under Latest Backup will update to the current time.
