How to Customize Scribble on iPad

Master handwriting recognition on iPad. Configure Scribble settings to refine text conversion, manage gestures, and optimize your Apple Pencil workflow.

  1. Access Apple Pencil settings. Open the Settings app on your iPad. Scroll down the sidebar and select Apple Pencil to view the available customization options for your device.
  2. Enable or disable Scribble. Locate the Scribble toggle within the Apple Pencil menu. Tap the switch to turn it on or off based on your preference for handwriting-to-text input.
  3. Review Scribble gestures. Tap the Try Scribble button in the settings menu to open an interactive tutorial. Practice the gestures for deleting text by scratching it out, selecting text by circling it, and joining or separating characters with a vertical line.
  4. Adjust input language. Navigate to General, then tap Keyboard. Select Keyboards and ensure you have added the languages you intend to use with Scribble. Scribble automatically detects the language based on your active keyboard input.
  5. Manage recognition errors. If Scribble fails to recognize specific words, use the markup toolbar that appears above the text field. Tap the keyboard icon to switch to the software keyboard temporarily to correct the entry.
