Customizing Apple Pencil Pro Gestures for Precision Workflow

Maximize your design efficiency by customizing Apple Pencil Pro squeeze and barrel roll gestures in iPadOS settings.

  1. Open Pencil settings. Open the Settings app on your iPad. Scroll down to the sidebar menu and select Apple Pencil to access your device preferences.
  2. Modify the Squeeze action. Select Squeeze from the menu options. Choose between Show Palette, Undo, or Switch Between Current and Last Tool to align the gesture with your specific creative workflow.
  3. Configure Barrel Roll sensitivity. Return to the main Apple Pencil menu and tap Barrel Roll. Adjust the responsiveness slider to determine how quickly the application reacts to the physical rotation of the pencil barrel.
  4. Test gesture input within a creative app. Launch a design application such as Procreate or Adobe Fresco. Perform the squeeze gesture to confirm the tool palette triggers according to your new settings.
  5. Set Double Tap preferences. Return to Settings and navigate to Double Tap. Assign a secondary action, such as Show Color Palette or Switch to Eraser, to ensure your workflow remains fluid without leaving the canvas.
