How to connect your iPad to an external display
Follow these steps to connect your iPad to an external monitor or TV using USB-C or Thunderbolt for expanded screen real estate and productivity.
- Establish the physical connection. Plug the USB-C cable directly into the charging port of your iPad and the input port of your external display. If your display requires HDMI or DisplayPort, connect the iPad to a Multiport Adapter, then connect the video cable from the adapter to your monitor.
- Access Display settings. Open the Settings app on your iPad. Tap Display & Brightness in the left sidebar, then select the Arrangement option that appears once the display is detected.
- Position your displays. Within the Arrangement menu, drag the icons representing your iPad and the external display to match their physical placement on your desk. This ensures the cursor moves naturally between screens when sliding across boundaries.
- Manage resolution and scaling. Under the display settings for your external monitor, adjust the resolution or text size using the provided sliders. Choose between More Space to fit more windows or Larger Text for improved legibility.
- Engage Stage Manager. Open Control Center by swiping down from the top-right corner of your iPad screen. Tap the Stage Manager icon to enable windowed multitasking, which allows you to drag apps across the external display seamlessly.
