How to Use Split Screen on Android Tablet

Learn how to enable and use split screen mode on Android tablets to run two apps simultaneously. Step-by-step guide with navigation tips.

  1. Open the first app you want to use. Launch any app from your home screen or app drawer. This will be the first app in your split screen setup.
  2. Access the recent apps overview. Tap the Recent Apps button (square icon) in your navigation bar, or swipe up and hold if using gesture navigation. You'll see all currently open apps as cards.
  3. Enable split screen for the first app. Find your desired app in the recent apps view and tap the app icon at the top of its card. Select 'Split screen' from the menu that appears. The app will move to the top half of your screen.
  4. Choose the second app. The bottom half of your screen will show your remaining open apps. Tap any app to place it in the second split screen position, or tap the home button to access your app drawer.
  5. Adjust the split screen divider. Drag the horizontal divider line between the two apps up or down to resize each app's screen space. Release when you reach your preferred layout.
  6. Exit split screen mode. Drag the divider all the way to the top or bottom of the screen to close one app, or press and hold the Recent Apps button to exit split screen entirely.
