How to Use Double Tap Gestures on Android

Master navigation and screen control on your Android device using double tap gestures. Follow these steps to enable and customize screen interactions.

  1. Open the System Settings. Unlock your device and navigate to the Settings app from your home screen or app drawer. Tap the gear icon to launch the primary system configuration menu.
  2. Access Display or Gesture settings. Scroll down and select Display. Depending on your specific manufacturer skin, look for Lock screen or Gestures sub-menus to locate screen wake controls.
  3. Enable Double Tap to Wake. Locate the toggle labeled Double tap to check phone, Double tap to wake, or Tap to wake. Switch the toggle to the On position to activate the gesture.
  4. Enable Double Tap to Sleep. Navigate to your home screen settings by long-pressing an empty space on the home screen and tapping Home settings. Ensure the Double tap to lock or Double tap to sleep toggle is active.
  5. Test the Gestures. Turn off your screen and tap the center of the display twice in quick succession to verify the wake function. On the home screen, tap an empty area twice to verify the device locks.
