How to Configure and Use a Password Manager on Android
Learn how to set up, integrate, and manage secure credentials on your Android device using a dedicated password manager.
- Install your preferred password manager. Download your chosen password manager from the Google Play Store. Ensure the app is reputable and supports the Android Autofill framework for seamless integration.
- Enable the Android Autofill service. Open Settings and navigate to Passwords & accounts. Tap on the Autofill service option, then select your password manager from the list of available services and confirm by tapping OK.
- Set up biometric authentication. Open your password manager app and complete the initial account setup. Navigate to the Security or Settings menu within the app to enable fingerprint or face unlock for faster vault access.
- Import or save your credentials. If you have existing passwords in Chrome or a file, use the import feature within the password manager's web vault. Alternatively, open your browser or apps; the password manager will prompt you to save credentials upon successful login.
- Verify autofill functionality. Navigate to a website or app login screen. Tap the credential field, and select your password manager from the autofill suggestion bar that appears above the keyboard.
- Configure vault locking settings. Adjust the vault timeout settings within your password manager to ensure it locks immediately after the screen turns off. This adds a critical layer of protection if your device is stolen or misplaced.
