How to Take a Screenshot on Android

Learn the universal methods to capture your Android screen, including physical button combinations and software gestures.

  1. Use the hardware button combination. Press the Power and Volume Down buttons simultaneously. Release both buttons immediately after the screen flashes or you hear the shutter sound.
  2. Utilize the Recent Apps overview. Swipe up from the bottom of your screen and hold to open the Recent Apps overview. Locate the Screenshot button at the bottom of the screen thumbnail to capture the current frame.
  3. Modify the capture preview. Once captured, a preview thumbnail appears in the bottom-left corner of the screen. Tap the pencil icon to crop, rotate, or annotate the image before saving.
  4. Distribute the screenshot. Tap the Share icon within the preview thumbnail to send the image via messaging apps, email, or cloud storage. Select your desired destination from the system share sheet.
  5. Access stored screenshots. Open the Google Photos app or your preferred file manager. Navigate to the Library tab and select the Screenshots folder to view all previously captured images.
