How to Transfer Authenticator App Data to a New Android Phone
Securely move your 2FA accounts to a new Android device. Learn how to export, sync, and migrate your authenticator data without losing account access.
- Verify cloud sync status. Open your authenticator app on the current device. Access the settings menu or the profile icon and confirm that Cloud Sync or Backup is enabled and linked to your primary Google account.
- Initiate a QR code export. Select Transfer Accounts within the app menu. Choose Export Accounts and verify your identity using biometric authentication or your screen lock PIN. Select the specific accounts you wish to move, then tap Next to generate a transfer QR code.
- Install the app on the new device. Download the identical authenticator application from the Google Play Store on your new Android phone. Launch the app and select the option to Get Started or Import Existing Accounts.
- Scan the transfer QR code. On the new device, select Import Accounts and choose Scan QR code. Use the new phone's camera to scan the code displayed on your old device to initiate the secure transfer of your token database.
- Confirm successful data migration. Check that the list of accounts on your new phone matches the entries on your old device. Verify that the time-based one-time passwords (TOTP) update in sync across both handsets.
