How to Limit Location Access on Android

Take control of your privacy by restricting location permissions for individual apps on your Android device in just a few steps.

  1. Open the system settings. Unlock your device and locate the Settings app on your home screen or within the app drawer. Tap the gear icon to launch the main system configuration menu.
  2. Access the location privacy dashboard. Scroll down the Settings menu until you find Location. Tap this entry to view your current location services and recent access requests.
  3. View per-app permissions. Tap on App location permissions. This displays a list of every application currently installed on your device, categorized by their access levels.
  4. Modify specific app access. Tap the specific app you wish to restrict. A permission window will appear displaying access options ranging from Allow all the time to Don't allow.
  5. Restrict precise location data. Look for the Use precise location toggle within the same app permission menu. Switch this off if the app only requires a general location for its basic functionality.
