How to Change the Default Launcher on Android

Follow these steps to replace your default Android home screen experience with a third-party launcher for complete UI customization.

  1. Download and install your preferred launcher. Open the Google Play Store and search for the desired launcher application. Tap the Install button and wait for the download to complete.
  2. Open the system Settings menu. Swipe down from the top of your screen to reveal the notification shade. Tap the gear icon to open the main Settings menu.
  3. Access the Default Apps submenu. Navigate to Apps and select Default apps. Depending on your manufacturer, you may need to tap on 'See all apps' before locating the default app settings.
  4. Locate Home app settings. Select 'Home app' or 'Launcher' from the provided list of default categories. This view displays the currently active home screen application.
  5. Apply the new launcher. Select your newly installed launcher from the list. A prompt may appear confirming the change; accept the request to finalize your selection.
