How to Change Your Android Launcher

Learn how to replace your default Android home screen with a custom launcher for a personalized mobile experience. Step-by-step instructions included.

  1. Install your preferred launcher. Open the Google Play Store on your device. Search for a launcher application, such as Nova Launcher or Microsoft Launcher, and tap Install to download it to your system.
  2. Access system settings. Open the Settings app on your Android device. Scroll down and tap on the Apps menu to view your installed applications.
  3. Select default apps. Within the Apps menu, tap on Default apps. If your version of Android hides this option, tap Default app settings or look for the advanced menu at the bottom of the list.
  4. Change the home app. Tap on Home app to view the list of installed interfaces. You will see your current system default launcher and the new launcher you downloaded in step one.
  5. Confirm the selection. Select your newly installed launcher from the list. If prompted by a system security warning regarding home screen permissions, tap OK or Change to confirm the change.
  6. Finalize setup. Press the Home gesture or navigation button to return to your home screen. Follow the on-screen configuration prompts provided by your new launcher to finish setting up your widget and icon preferences.
