How to Change Default Apps on Android
Learn how to change your default browser, phone, and messaging apps on Android to customize your user experience.
- Open the system settings. Unlock your device and locate the Settings app icon. Tap to open the main configuration menu for your operating system.
- Access the Apps menu. Scroll down the list and tap on 'Apps'. On some devices, this may be labeled as 'Apps & notifications' or 'Application manager'.
- Select Default apps. Look for the 'Default apps' option. You may need to tap on 'See all apps' or a 'General' sub-menu to locate this setting if it is not immediately visible.
- Assign specific categories. Tap the category you wish to change, such as 'Browser app', 'Phone app', or 'SMS app'. A list of compatible installed applications will appear.
- Set your preference. Tap the radio button or the app name from the provided list to designate it as the new default. Your selection will take effect immediately.
