How to Block Unknown App Installs on Android

Secure your Android device by restricting app installations to verified sources only. Follow these steps to disable sideloading and prevent security risks.

  1. Open system settings. Unlock your device and locate the Settings app icon. Tap to open the Settings menu to access your device configuration preferences.
  2. Access Apps settings. Scroll down the main settings menu until you find the Apps entry. Tap Apps to view a complete list of your installed software and management permissions.
  3. Open Special app access. Tap the 'Special app access' option. You may need to tap 'See all' or 'Advanced' within the Apps menu to reveal this selection.
  4. Select Install unknown apps. Locate the entry labeled 'Install unknown apps'. This section lists all applications currently authorized to install additional APK files or updates from outside the Google Play Store.
  5. Revoke installation permissions. Review the list of apps. If any application is set to 'Allowed', tap the app name and toggle the 'Allow from this source' switch to the Off position. Repeat this for every application in the list to ensure your device only installs verified software.
