How to Transfer WhatsApp Chats from iPhone to Android

Move your WhatsApp chat history from iOS to Android using the Google Data Restore Tool and a USB-C to Lightning cable. Follow these steps for success.

  1. Factory reset the Android device. The transfer process only functions during the initial Android setup phase. If you have already set up your phone, navigate to Settings > General Management > Reset > Factory data reset to clear the device.
  2. Link the devices. Power on your Android device and follow the on-screen prompts until you reach the Copy apps & data screen. Connect your iPhone to the Android device using the USB-C to Lightning cable when prompted.
  3. Trust the Android device. Unlock your iPhone. A prompt titled Trust This Computer? will appear on the display. Tap Trust and enter your iPhone passcode to grant the Android device access to your data.
  4. Initiate the QR code transfer. Select Apps and Data to copy from your iPhone on the Android screen. When the WhatsApp QR code appears on the Android device, open WhatsApp on your iPhone, navigate to Settings > Chats > Move Chats to Android, and scan the QR code.
  5. Start the data migration. Tap Start on your iPhone to begin the transfer process. Wait for the progress bar to complete on the Android device before disconnecting the cable. Do not close the WhatsApp application on either device during this time.
  6. Complete setup and sign in. Finish the remaining Android setup steps. Download WhatsApp from the Play Store, launch the app, and sign in using the same phone number previously used on your iPhone. Your chats will be imported automatically upon verification.
