How to Transfer Your Passwords to Android

Migrate your passwords to Android securely using Google Password Manager. Follow these steps to export and import your login credentials efficiently.

  1. Export your passwords from your desktop browser. Open your desktop browser, navigate to the Password Manager settings, and select the option to Export Passwords. Save the resulting .csv file to a secure, easily accessible location on your computer. Do not rename the file, as the import tool requires the standard format.
  2. Log into your Google account settings. On your computer, open a browser and go to passwords.google.com. Ensure you are signed in with the same Google account that is active on your Android device.
  3. Initiate the import process. Click the Settings gear icon located in the top-right corner of the Password Manager page. Under the Import passwords section, click the Select File button.
  4. Select your password file. Navigate to the folder where you saved your .csv file in Step 1. Select the file and confirm the upload to begin the migration to your Google account.
  5. Verify sync on your Android device. On your Android device, open Settings and tap Passwords & accounts. Ensure your Google account is listed and that the Auto-fill service is enabled for Google.
  6. Remove sensitive local files. Navigate to the file location on your computer where the CSV was stored. Permanently delete the file by holding Shift + Delete (Windows) or emptying the Trash (macOS) to ensure no plaintext passwords remain on your drive.
